There’s something magical about those quiet moments at the water’s edge — where the air is cool, the world slows, and the horizon carries a shimmer of something unspoken. Towards Brownsea was born from one of those moments.
This piece is painted in oils on a long canvas (79.5 x 29.3 cm), capturing a peaceful, almost contemplative view across the water from Sandbanks Road, looking toward Brownsea Island. The jetty leads the eye into the distance where Sandbanks itself sits just beyond, hushed under tones of indigo and burnt umber.
I chose a mostly monochrome palette because I wanted the scene to feel like memory — quiet, tonal, and deeply still. But it’s also part of my Shimmering Shores collection, so of course, I couldn’t resist weaving in subtle touches of gold paint. These highlights catch the light and bring the piece to life as you move around it, just like the glints on the water when the sun hits at just the right angle.
This is one of those pieces that I hope invites you to pause. To stand in front of it and breathe. To remember a walk by the sea, a moment with a loved one, or just the sound of waves lapping against the shore.
I’ve always felt a special connection to this stretch of coast. It’s home, and I hope Towards Brownsea brings a sense of peace and rootedness to wherever it’s displayed.
