Painting Renewal: The Story Behind 'Whispers of Spring'

Every painting has a beginning, and for me, 'Whispers of Spring' began with a feeling – that quiet stir of anticipation when winter starts to melt into spring. It’s a moment many of us look forward to: lighter evenings, soft breezes, and the first colour returning to the world after months of grey. I wanted to bottle that feeling and pour it into an artwork.

Subtle flower impression art with swirling colour.

Using oils allowed me to blend and shape the image slowly, intuitively. I didn’t want a precise flower, but rather the essence of a bloom just beginning to open. The central soft pink area radiates gently, with layers of green, neutral, and white brushing outward like light and air. It’s a painting about looking ahead – about expectation, warmth, and hope.

When I paint, I often think in emotions. 'Whispers of Spring' came from a place of quiet joy and the simple pleasure of watching seasons change. It’s abstract, yes, but for me it's deeply rooted in nature, in growth, in new starts.

This print is now available in a variety of sizes in my shop. Whether you need something to brighten your home, encourage someone else, or simply bring a gentle energy to a quiet corner, I hope this piece speaks to you too. After all, who doesn’t need a whisper of spring now and then?
