There's a moment in Matthew 14 that I find genuinely extraordinary every time I read it.
Five thousand people. A hillside. A small boy's lunch. The disciples are already doing the maths and the answer is obvious — there isn't enough. There is nowhere near enough. And Jesus looks at what's there — five loaves and two fish — and says, effectively, that's fine. That's all we need.
And then He feeds everyone. All five thousand of them. With twelve basketfuls left over.
I love this miracle because it's so specific. Jesus didn't conjure food from thin air. He took what was already there — what felt completely inadequate in the face of the need — and multiplied it beyond what anyone thought possible. The provision came through what was offered, however small it seemed.
I think that's such a powerful picture for our own lives. How often do we hold back from offering what we have because it doesn't feel like enough? How often do we wait until we feel more ready, more resourced, more prepared? The miracle of the loaves and fishes says something different. Bring what you have. Let Jesus do the rest.
