Some paintings are created not just to be seen, but to be felt. My piece ‘Echoes in Still Water’ was born from a desire to capture the quiet, magical moments in life when everything feels calm and in balance. It is an abstract waterscape, painted in oils, with soft blues, greens and pinks that gently shift and reflect like water mirroring the sky.
The inspiration for this piece came from my own search for inner peace. I wanted to create something that felt like a deep breath — still, soothing, and restorative. The dramatic sky in the painting sets the tone, reflected in tranquil waters that ripple with a sense of enchantment. The distant landscape anchors the composition, giving depth and perspective while allowing the colours to lead the way.
What I love about this painting is its ethereal quality. It is abstract, yet it hints at familiar elements of nature: sky, water, horizon. That balance between the seen and the imagined leaves room for the viewer’s own interpretation. Some may see calm waters at sunset, others a dreamlike landscape, but the underlying feeling is always stillness and peace.
‘Echoes in Still Water’ is available as a fine art print in a range of sizes, printed on either paper or canvas. For me, the joy of creating this piece was in layering colour and light until the painting itself seemed to breathe. My hope is that it brings the same sense of calm to your home as it brought to me while painting it.
