‘Sandbanks Beach’ – A Coastal Pastel Painting of Iconic Sandbanks Beach by Kate Shephard.

Inspired by the iconic beauty of Sandbanks Beach, this original pastel painting captures the essence of golden sands, a resting boat, and the distant Purbeck Hills. Created with soft pastels on high-quality pastelmat, this artwork reflects the serene atmosphere of this much-loved location on the Dorset coast.

I painted ‘Sandbanks Beach’ to showcase the warm, sunlit tones of the sand, the deep blues of the sky and water, and the tranquil presence of a boat resting on the shore. The distant Purbeck Hills add a sense of depth and timeless beauty to the composition, making this piece an evocative reminder of peaceful seaside moments.

As an artist based in Dorset, I’m deeply inspired by the stunning landscapes that surround me, and this piece was painted with a love for the natural beauty of the South Coast. The texture of pastel allows for rich layering of colour, giving the artwork a soft yet vibrant appearance, making it feel almost like a memory captured on paper.
